Vasan Ramachandran Wins 2021 Louis and Artur Lucian Award for Circulatory Disease Work
Vasan Ramachandran, MD, FACC, has been honoured as the 2021 recipient of the prestigious Louis and Artur Lucian Award. This accolade recognises his significant contributions to the field of circulatory diseases and blood pressure chart. The award comes with a $60,000 cash prize.
Dr. Ramachandran, currently serving as the chief of the section of preventive medicine and epidemiology at Boston University School of Medicine, has dedicated over 25 years to advancing our understanding of cardiovascular health and blood pressure. His work has notably led to a revised threshold for high blood pressure in the U.S., benefiting millions of lives.
As the Principal Investigator and Director of the Framingham Heart Study, Ramachandran's research has illuminated the genetic and non-genetic epidemiology of congestive heart failure, population-based vascular testing, and cardiovascular disease risk prediction models. His insights have provided crucial guidance for blood pressure screening in primary care, particularly in the progression from borderline to high blood pressure.
In recognition of his achievements, Dr. Ramachandran will receive the Louis and Artur Lucian Award. As part of this honour, he will deliver a formal Lucian Lecture at McGill University and engage with the McGill community in the spring of 2022. Furthermore, he will undertake a research collaboration with McGill investigators in the field of circulatory diseases and blood pressure chart.
Vasan Ramachandran's groundbreaking work in circulatory diseases and blood pressure has earned him the esteemed Louis and Artur Lucian Award. His ongoing research, including the upcoming collaboration with McGill investigators, promises to continue shaping our understanding and management of cardiovascular health and blood pressure.
