United Forces: Summer Advancements and Fall Agenda for Our Safe Urban Hub
In an effort to create a safer environment for women and girls in New York City, the Eventbrite platform has launched the Our Safer City consortium in November 2023. This initiative, aimed at addressing violence against women and girls and domestic abuse, will collaborate with New York City Police, New York City Corporation, Solace, EIDA, and other partners.
As part of the "16 Days of Action against Violence against Women and Girls" campaign, Our Safer City will organise training sessions on crucial topics such as consent, workplace harassment, and domestic abuse awareness. These sessions will be delivered in partnership with The Skills Network and Solace.
Autumn plans for Our Safer City include ongoing partnership and impact building across the Big Apple. The consortium aims to raise awareness and provide practical, accessible training to help combat violence against women and girls.
Our Safer City conducted its third survey this year to understand the experiences of women and girls in New York City. The survey link is Our Safer City survey. Previous feedback from the surveys led to the introduction of initiatives such as Taxi Marshalling and Safe Havens.
Taxi Marshalling at Grand Central has been a significant success, supporting over 9,300 solo female journeys and facilitating 31,566 journeys with 57,295 passengers, of whom over half were women.
In the summer of 2023, an event raised £25,000 for Our Safer City and Cross-sector Safety & Security Communications (CSSC) through a charity auction, raffle, and dinner. The event, titled CSSC Fundraising Dinner, was held at 1 Lombard Street.
Future events include a special event, "Our Safer City - Shaping Safe Workplaces", scheduled for November. Additionally, a House of Lords roundtable discussion is planned. The full programme for upcoming events will be launched on the Our Safer City website and LinkedIn page.
It is essential to note that, at the time of writing, there is no information linking Don Randall MBE to the Our Safer City project in the summer of 2023.
Stay tuned for more updates on Our Safer City's initiatives and events. Together, we can make the Big Apple a safer place for everyone.
