Tragedy in Lajpat Nagar: Advocate Dies by Suicide Due to Depression

A 33-year-old advocate based in Lajpat Nagar, South Delhi, tragically took his life by allegedly jumping from the roof of a four-storey building on August 12, 2025. The incident occurred at around 1.20pm on Tuesday afternoon.

Upon reaching the scene, the police found the man unresponsive. A handwritten note was recovered from his pocket, which his wife later identified as belonging to him. The note stated that the man's death was due to his struggle with depression and that no one else was responsible for his death.

Investigation

The police responded promptly to the call reporting the fall. The body was taken to the AIIMS Trauma Centre for a post-mortem examination. A crime team and forensic experts also examined the site to document the incident and collect evidence. Legal procedures for the investigation are currently underway, with further actions to be taken based on the findings.

As of now, there has been no publicly shared indication of foul play or criminal investigation beyond confirming the suicide and ruling out third-party involvement as per the suicide note.

Support Resources

The tragic death of the advocate serves as a reminder of the importance of mental health support. For individuals facing similar challenges related to depression and suicidal thoughts, various national and local mental health support resources in India include:

  • The National Suicide Prevention Helpline (9152987821 / 1800-599-0019)
  • The KIRAN Mental Health Helpline (1800-599-0019)
  • Local NGOs and Mental Health Clinics, such as The Live Love Laugh Foundation and AASRA, which provide counseling and support across Delhi and India.
  • Hospital Psychiatry Departments, like AIIMS and other local hospitals, which have mental health and counseling services available for crisis intervention and treatment.
  • Employee Assistance Programs, which are offered by many workplaces, including government offices, and provide confidential counseling services for employees struggling with mental health issues.

Given the advocate was employed with the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD), workplace support services and Employee Assistance Programs could be avenues for mental health support. However, the advocate's suicide suggests a need for improved outreach and intervention.

If you or someone you know is experiencing depression or suicidal thoughts, reaching out to these resources early can be critical for prevention and support. Mental health professionals provide confidential help that can mitigate crises.
