Thriving Landscape in Seismically-Affected Areas: Marche's Rebound

The Mountain River Basin Consortium of the Tronto has taken on a significant role in the "Made in Piceno - Well-being and Quality of Life" project, which aims to revitalise earthquake-affected areas in the Marche region. This initiative focuses on promoting well-being and enhancing the quality of life in the Piceno area, addressing key local development priorities such as environmental sustainability, health, and community vitality.

As the implementing body of the project, the Mountain River Basin Consortium of the Tronto is responsible for coordinating activities related to the sustainable management of natural resources within the Tronto river basin. Their involvement ensures that environmental and territorial aspects are integrated into the project's goals, linking local ecosystem protection with social and economic well-being for residents.

The "Made in Piceno - Well-being and Quality of Life" project falls under the "Improvement and services" area and has a financial allocation of 230,000 euros. The project follows the model of sustainable development and quality of life, with a particular focus on the hilly and mountainous inland municipalities.

The consortium collaborates with various local stakeholders, including municipalities, environmental organisations, community groups, local producers, cultural and social associations, accommodation facilities, and tourist realities. The project enhances the local agro-food tradition and seeks to create a network of experiential paths promoting healthy eating and lifestyle.

The network of experiential paths will include meetings with producers, guided tastings, sensory laboratories, excursions, meditation immersed in nature, artistic workshops, and cultural performances. Some tested events like "Travertine Divine", the Spring Festival of Comunanza, Santa Teopista celebration, distillation laboratories on green anise, truffle and chestnut harvesting experiences, trekking in chestnut groves and saffron fields are already part of the plan.

The BIM Tronto, comprising 17 municipalities of the Marche Region, is primarily active in earthquake-stricken, mountainous areas of the region. It focuses on economic and social progress, tourism, local economy, artisanal productions, territorial supply chains, labour qualification, social support, and the most needy categories. The consortium has expressed its willingness to co-finance the project with additional resources.

For further details or feedback, please contact the Mountain River Basin Consortium of the Tronto or the regional development authorities in Piceno. The project is an action of the Regional Triennial Program provided by the Marche Region Law No. 23 of December 2023, and its reference territory includes the provinces of Ascoli Piceno, Fermo, and Macerata.

The Mountain River Basin Consortium of the Tronto, in addition to focusing on environmental sustainability and territorial aspects, also emphasizes health and well-being within the project. To achieve this, they are introducing healthy-diets and fitness-and-exercise programs as part of the network of experiential paths they are creating. The consortium, in collaboration with local stakeholders, aims to promote a lifestyle that includes nutrition from local agro-food traditions. Furthermore, the consortium is endeavoring to incorporate elements of science, particularly environmental-science, into the project, as they seek to link local ecosystem protection with social and economic well-being for residents.
