News Article: "Fit and Safe at the Wheel - Stay Mobile in Age" Seminar Offered by Traffic Safety Council Düsseldorf
The Traffic Safety Council Düsseldorf is hosting a free seminar on March 15, 2023, from 10 am to 1 pm, aimed at empowering seniors to remain independent and confident drivers while prioritising safety on the roads. The seminar, titled "Fit and Safe at the Wheel - Stay Mobile in Age," is part of the council's "Fit and Secure at the Wheel - Stay Mobile in Age" program, designed to help older adults maintain their driving skills and mobility safely as they age.
Simon M. Höhner, Managing Director of the Traffic Safety Council Düsseldorf, will be present at the event. The seminar will cover topics such as understanding how aging impacts driving skills and vehicle control, tips for maintaining physical and cognitive fitness for safe driving, adjusting driving habits to compensate for age-related changes, information on vehicle safety features that can assist older drivers, and resources available to support older adults in continuing to drive safely or transition to alternative transportation when needed.
The event is not a test, but rather a discussion and exchange of information about changes in traffic and individual problems. It aims to provide information and practical exercises to help seniors feel safe on the roads. Topics to be addressed include correct behaviour in a roundabout, driving in a traffic-calmed zone, correct behaviour towards cyclists, and forming a rescue lane.
Further practice sessions can be arranged if needed after the initial consultation drive. Consultation drives cover topics such as vehicle handling, behaviour at intersections, left turns, lane changes, overtaking and merging, distance and speed, and early recognition of hazardous situations and anticipatory driving. These consultation drives, while chargeable, can be booked individually upon request.
The Traffic Safety Council is supported by the North Rhine Driving Instructor Association, which offers consultation drives for practical training on various traffic situations. Registration for the free information event on March 15, 2023, should be done by March 7, 2023, with the Traffic Safety Council Düsseldorf by phone or email (0211/ 306644 or [email protected]).
