Terrified father encounters colossal gecko leaping from Lidl's sweetcorn tin during children's dinner preparation.

New Twist on an Old Meal:

DEADLY DISCOVERY!

A man couldn't believe his eyes when he found a full-sized gecko inside a tin of sweetcorn!

John Shier, 53, had a shocking encounter while preparing a meal for his family last month. As he was cooking, something unsavory caught his attention. Upon closer inspection, he was faced with a 7-centimeter-long, dead gecko that had somehow ended up in the can.

The sales manager from Spalding, Lincolnshire, double-checked what he was seeing and likened the discovery to a bush tucker challenge. Lidl sweetcorn lay atop the lifeless creature and there was even an imprint of the lizard under the ring-pull lid.

Dad-of-two John purchased the questionable tin from Lidl as part of a multipack. Understandably, he expressed concerns about the remaining containers and shared his unique story with The Sun.

"I thought I was on I'm A Celebrity, it was like a proper bushtucker trial challenge," he said. "I just wanted the sweetcorn, I didn't want a seven-centimeter gecko to go with it!"

After spotting the creepy-crawly, John decided against eating any of the ingredients he was preparing. None of his family members wanted to risk ending up with a gecko in their meal, either.

"Luckily, I spotted it," John explained. "If I had missed it or if it had been buried beneath the sweetcorn, one of us might have eaten it. It's a bit of a joke."

Despite his unpleasant discovery, John was upset by Lidl's response after presenting them with evidence. The supermarket only offered him a ten-pound voucher, a gesture he deemed inadequate.

In a statement, Lidl acknowledged the issue and clarified that they take such matters seriously. They believe this to be an isolated case and claim to have no other customer complaints.

"This isn't a fly or a small insect, I would understand that," John said. "But this is a lizard, fully intact and measuring seven centimeters. I'm shocked at their response."

"I don't know the toxicity levels of a gecko, but it could have been really poisonous. I certainly wouldn't want to take the risk of eating one. It's a bit of a joke."

"It's bad enough I could have served it to my wife or son, but one of my grandchildren could have been eating that meal."

After this experience, John vowed never to shop at Lidl again.
