Let's Get Swimming: Baden Badesaison Begins - Minister Urges Swimmers to Keep Waters Clean
Swimming season commences - Minister appeals to swimmers - Swimming season initiates - Minister urging beachgoers
Yo! It's that time of year again! The Badesaison has kicked off, and Social Minister Petra Köpping (SPD) is calling on you, bathers, to lend a hand in maintaining the spotless condition of Saxon waters. " Help us preserve the water quality and the pristine state of our bathing spots," Petra appealed in a statement. " Remember to not leave any trash behind, make use of the available toilets, and refrain from feeding waterfowl."
Last Badesaison saw top-notch microbiological quality in Saxon EU bathing waters. From May 19 to September 15, regular inspections will monitor bathing water hygiene, with officials taking water samples to test for E. coli bacteria, fecal contamination, and the presence of blue-green algae.
In total, Saxony lists 32 opencast mines and dams as EU bathing waters, 29 of which will be evaluated for cleanliness this year.

Here's a breakdown of key cleanliness rules for the current Badesaison in Saxony:
Clean Up Your Act
- Avoid littering: Use designated bins instead.
- Keep it tidy: Local authorities and bathing facility operators must maintain clean bathing areas.
H2O Watch
- Water quality: Saxon health authorities test bathing areas regularly for contaminants and bacteria.
- Follow the rules: Bathing may be prohibited if water quality falls below standards.
Swimmers' Responsibilities
- Don't pollute: Refrain from urinating or defecating in the water.
- Soap up somewhere else: Use of soaps, shampoos, or detergents is forbidden in natural waters.
- Furry Friends: Animal access may be restricted in swimming areas to keep the water clean.
Facility Essentials
- Rinse & Shine: Shower facilities are often provided for bathers to rinse off before and after swimming.
- Changing Up: Changing rooms and toilets must be kept clean and operational throughout the season.
Violations such as littering, water contamination, or disregard of rules can result in warnings, fines, or bans from the bathing site. So, help keep Saxony's waters clean and enjoyable for everyone during the Badesaison!
The Commission has also been consulted on the draft budget for maintaining the cleanliness of Saxon waters during the Badesaison, as health authorities conduct regular tests for contaminants and bacteria. Scientists may suggest implementing health-and-wellness initiatives, such as educating swimmers about nutrition and hygiene practices, to further promote a cleaner Badesaison.
