A recent study conducted by Deloitte, a global consulting firm, has shed light on the financial struggles and concerns faced by millennials and Generation Z in Portugal. The study, titled "Gen Z and Millennial Survey 2025", gathered responses from 23,000 young people across 44 countries, including 400 from Portugal.

The findings reveal that financial instability and living paycheck to paycheck are significant issues for both generations in Portugal. Specifically, 52% of Portuguese millennials and 54% of Generation Z respondents report that they are living paycheck to paycheck, highlighting economic difficulties and financial stress within these groups.

Moreover, the study shows that 60% of Portuguese millennials and an alarming 41% of Generation Z fear they won't be able to save enough for financial comfort in retirement. This reflects a broader trend seen globally where young people are experiencing economic challenges, but the Portuguese data particularly emphasize immediate financial insecurity as a key issue for Generation Z.

The cost of living is another major concern for millennials and Generation Z in Portugal, with this issue being among the main concerns of young Portuguese people for the fourth consecutive year, according to Deloitte.

The study also highlights mental health as a relevant topic for both generations, with 45% of Generation Z and 50% of millennials in Portugal reporting feeling stressed or anxious most of the time. Employment contributes greatly to feelings of stress, anxiety, lack of recognition, excessive hours, and toxic workplace culture among young Portuguese workers.

Political instability is another key concern for young Portuguese professionals, according to the new study. The findings of this study were published in a report by ECO.

In conclusion, the "Gen Z and Millennial Survey 2025" by Deloitte provides insights into the financial and mental health struggles faced by millennials and Generation Z in Portugal. The study underscores the urgent need for policies and initiatives aimed at addressing these issues and improving the financial security and well-being of young people in Portugal.
