After an 11-year delay, Delhi has finally rolled out the Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB-PMJAY) scheme. This move marks the city as the 35th state or Union Territory to implement the scheme, following Jammu and Kashmir which was the 36th to do so before its national rollout.

The scheme, aimed at aiding economically weaker sections, is expected to benefit approximately 30 lakh families, according to the Delhi government's estimates. Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya expressed optimism that the AB-PMJAY will significantly improve healthcare access for Delhi's economically weaker sections.

The rollout of the AB-PMJAY scheme in Delhi took place at a public function attended by Mandaviya. Health Minister Pankaj Kumar Singh referred to the event as a reform, while also hailing it as a long-overdue move.

Under the AB-PMJAY scheme, eligible families will receive ₹5 lakh annual health coverage. The scheme covers pre-existing conditions, ensuring comprehensive healthcare coverage for beneficiaries. To facilitate this, the Delhi government has prepared a detailed list of empanelled hospitals, ensuring a wide network of healthcare providers.

The implementation of the AB-PMJAY scheme in Delhi also includes cashless and paperless facilities at empanelled hospitals, simplifying the process for beneficiaries. Mandaviya emphasized the need for timely and efficient implementation of the scheme to ensure maximum benefits for the beneficiaries. He also called for continuous monitoring and evaluation of the scheme's implementation in Delhi to ensure its effectiveness.

The management of the AB-PMJAY scheme in Delhi will be handled by the National Health Authority (NHA) and empanelled hospitals across the city. Mandaviya expressed his confidence that the scheme will provide a significant boost to Delhi's healthcare infrastructure.

With the launch of the AB-PMJAY scheme in Delhi, the central government's ongoing efforts to expand healthcare coverage across India continue to bear fruit. The scheme's implementation in Delhi is part of these efforts, aiming to provide health coverage to economically weaker sections of society and improve overall healthcare access in the country.
