In a comprehensive study conducted by MTS AdTech in May 2025, the consumption habits of fast food in Russia were examined. The survey involved 2000 Russians aged 18 and over, living within the Russian Federation.

The results revealed that fast food is significantly popular in Russia, with 84% of respondents reporting that they consume fast food. Among all regions, the Central Federal District emerged as the region with the highest frequency of daily fast food consumption. Conversely, fast food consumption is less common in the South, Far East, and Siberia.

Interestingly, the average check in restaurants is 3.3 times higher than in fast food establishments, with an 11% growth compared to last year. However, transactions in fast food establishments were 5.8 times more than in restaurants, indicating a higher volume of fast food consumption.

The survey also shed light on the reasons behind the consumption of fast food in the Southern regions of Russia. Southerners primarily buy fast food to treat themselves (34%) or to avoid cooking (28%). Despite the high frequency of fast food consumption, only 14% of respondents reported an increase in their visits to fast food establishments this year compared to last, while 37% consume it less frequently. Among those who reduced their visits, 48% noted an emphasis on food quality, and 22% pointed to the lack of nearby points as reasons for their decision.

It is important to note that no specific information about the most popular reasons for consuming fast food in the southern regions of Russia was provided in the survey results. However, the study provides valuable insights into the prevalence and trends of fast food consumption in Russia, offering a starting point for further research and understanding in this area.

In the survey, it was discovered that within the health-and-wellness aspect, a concerning 84% of Russians are drawn towards fast food consumption. In a surprising turn, the lifestyle choices in the Southern regions often incorporate fast food for self-treatment (34%) and to avoid cooking (28%), suggesting a potential connection between daily life and fast food intake in these regions, which could be a topic of interest in science and health-and-wellness studies. Moreover, the food-and-drink industry must consider the growing trend of fast food consumption and its impact on health and well-being in Russia.
