Reflecting on the demise of a cherished celebrity, following a battle with drugs, Charlie Sheen shares his thoughts
Charlie Sheen, known for his role in the popular sitcom Two and a Half Men, has shared his concerns about fellow actor Matthew Perry's addiction struggles. Sheen, who has a history of battling addiction himself, based his observations on Perry's apparent signs of addiction during the promotion of Perry's memoir in 2022.
Sheen's Netflix docuseries, titled aka Charlie Sheen, and his memoir The Book of Sheen both delve into his own struggles with addiction, specifically cocaine, crack cocaine, and alcohol. In a recent interview on YouTube's Piers Morgan Uncensored, Sheen discussed his observations, expressing a desire to reach out to Perry but ultimately not doing so before Perry's death.
Perry, famous for his role in the hit sitcom Friends, was found dead in the hot tub at his home in Los Angeles in October 2023. Three weeks prior, Perry had read Sheen's memoir, which focused on themes of sobriety and recovery. Perry's memoir, titled Friends, Lovers, and the Big Terrible Thing, also touched on these themes, but Perry publicly claimed to be sober during its promotion.
Sheen, who has not had a close relationship with Perry, noticed a change in Perry's speech during the audiobook of his memoir. This change, combined with Perry's promotion of a memoir about sobriety and recovery while seemingly struggling with addiction, led Sheen to feel bad for Perry.
In his memoir, Perry mentioned Sheen and expressed a desire to be more famous. Despite this, their professional relationship remained distant. Sheen, feeling compelled to speak out, shared his concerns in the hope that it might help Perry in some way.
Despite the unfortunate circumstances, Sheen's observations serve as a reminder of the ongoing battle against addiction and the importance of seeking help. Both Sheen and Perry's struggles with addiction highlight the complexities and challenges faced by those battling these issues, and their stories serve as a testament to the resilience of the human spirit.
