PSG aiming audaciously to recruit Putellas from Barcelona's squad
Barcelona's star midfielder Alexia Putellas, who recently led the 2023 World Cup winning team and finished as the runner-up in the European Championship this summer, has reportedly turned down a four-year contract offer from Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) with a higher salary than she would earn at Barcelona.
The talks between Putellas and Barcelona have been ongoing, and if successful, the transfer would be the biggest deal of the summer window. However, the negotiations are not definitively closed, and the transfer's completion remains uncertain before the transfer window closes on Friday.
Barcelona's financial situation, exacerbated by the ongoing renovation of the Camp Nou, is impacting all sections of the club, including the women's team. As a result, several players, including Jana Fernandez, Fridolina Rolfo, and Ingrid Engen, have been parted ways with the club this summer.
PSG, on the other hand, have already made a significant move by signing Real Madrid defender and captain Olga Carmona this summer. The club is reportedly intending to trigger Putellas' contract's release clause amounting to 1.1 million euros, as Barcelona is not interested in selling.
Putellas is under contract with Barcelona until 2026, with an optional extra year. Her entourage has not responded to AFP's request for confirmation about the transfer.
The latest negotiations or developments occurred around mid-September 2025, with PSG making a four-year contract offer and discussions continuing up to at least September 17, 2025. It is unclear if the parties involved will reach an agreement before the transfer window closes.
