Proposal for Worker Radiation Safety Directive to be Presented by Commission Due to Radiation Hazards Exposure Risks

The Bremen-South Early Counseling Center, run by the SOS Children's Village in collaboration with the Social Services Office in Bremen South, provides vital support to families and expectant parents every day. The center offers a network for families to exchange ideas and expand their support system. However, the future of this essential service is under threat due to potential budget cuts.

Lars Becker, the director of the SOS Children's Village in Bremen, expresses his concerns about the upcoming budget decisions. If the Senate decides on a so-called zero round for free carriers, the Bremen-South Early Counseling Center may be affected. Such cuts, according to Becker, have lasting effects, especially on early counseling for families.

The Senate is currently assessing the budget drafts of the departments as a whole following the summer break. The individual departments are preparing their budget drafts based on a key value decision of the Senate. The overall budget for 2026/2027 is currently being prepared, with the Senate agreeing on it in June.

However, the draft for the Bremen double budget 2026/2027 does not provide for an adjustment of material and personnel costs for recipients of grants, i.e. free carriers. This could lead to increased costs for large carriers, making it difficult for them to compensate for the missing amount.

Becker wishes for a dialogue between politics and carriers to discuss potential scenarios and ensure planning security. He fears that if the Senate decides on a zero round for free carriers, Bremen's carriers will have to restrict their offers, and it is not known how it will continue in 2027.

The Youth Office refers families to the free carriers due to the openness families show towards them. The SOS Children's Village is already trying to compensate for increased costs, and one open counseling group in Huckelriede and Woltmershausen may be reduced as a result.

Further consequences of financial cuts could include unfilled positions, fewer freelancers, and the need to consider extending expiring rental contracts. Becker emphasizes that without compensation for rising costs, important offers for pregnant women and young families could come under pressure.

The deputations and committees will initially deal with the budget drafts. Further discussions in the Senate and Parliament will follow before a reading of the double budget for 2026/2027 is planned for March 2026. Nina Willborn, spokeswoman for Social Senator Claudia Schilling, states that the goal is to continue to support free carriers adequately.

To understand the present status and consequences of the "zero round" initiative for free carriers in Bremen and its direct effect on the Bremen-South Early Counseling Center, one would need recent updates from Bremen’s local transport authorities, the SOS Children’s Village administrative communications, or local news sources. It is recommended to consult Bremen’s public transport authority announcements or contact the SOS Children’s Village Bremen-South directly for their perspective on transport services affecting their operations.

  1. The Bremen-South Early Counseling Center, providing support for family health and mental health, is facing potential budget cuts in the policy-and-legislation sphere, putting other important health-and-wellness related services at risk.
  2. Lars Becker, the director of the SOS Children's Village, calls for a dialogue with politics to discuss potential implications and ensure planning security, to avoid restricting parenting support services.
  3. General-news sources should provide recent updates on the "zero round" initiative for free carriers in Bremen, as its outcome will impact the Bremen-South Early Counseling Center's operations and potentially affect local families and expectant parents.
  4. The SOS Children's Village is already making adjustments to accommodate increased costs, raising concerns about the future of specific services like the open counseling group in Huckelriede and Woltmershausen.
