In a significant move to combat the growing issue of child pornography, the Hessian Criminal Police Office (LKA) coordinated a large-scale operation across various cities in Hesse, Germany. The operation, which took place primarily between June 30th and July 4th, involved raids on numerous homes, implicating over 50 suspects, aged between 15 and 71[1].

Key details include:

- **Number of suspects:** The operation targeted 57 suspects, with 17 of them being under the age of 21[1].

- **Locations:** The raids took place in multiple locations across Hesse, including Frankfurt, Fulda, Gießen, Hanau, Kassel, Offenbach, Wiesbaden, as well as several districts such as Darmstadt-Dieburg, Main-Kinzig, and Main-Taunus[1].

- **Outcomes:** While specific outcomes such as arrests or charges were not immediately available, the operation is part of an active probe aimed at dismantling the network, seizing illegal material, and bringing the perpetrators to justice[1].

During the operation, 460 items were secured, including numerous storage media[1]. The announcement also emphasised that sexual violence against children and young people is not limited to adults, but is also committed by children, young people, and young adults[1].

It's worth noting that no arrests were made, but nine suspects were interrogated. The suspects are not in contact with each other, according to the current status of the investigation[1].

Last year, Hesse registered a total of 5270 cases of child and youth pornography, and in 1159 registered cases of sexual abuse offenses against children and young people, 35 percent of the suspects were younger than 21 years old[3].

The operation underscores the urgent need for continued efforts to combat child pornography and protect the most vulnerable members of society. As the investigation continues, updates on the progress and outcomes will be closely awaited.
