A Rural Tragedy: The Heartbreaking Story of a Mother Lost in a Kazakh Hospital

A devastating incident unfolded in the village of Zhanaarka, claiming the life of a 42-year-old mother of four during an appendectomy at the district hospital. The district hospital's director and several doctors have since been relieved of their duties, according to the KTK channel.

The family claimed the doctors failed to carry out an allergy test before the operation and neglected necessary examinations before administering anesthesia. They allege that the doctors cited a lack of necessary equipment as the reason. In an interview with the channel's correspondents, the woman's brother, Maksat Kasakayev, expressed his dismay, "How is it possible for a central district hospital to be devoid of basic necessities like sodium chloride, calcium chloride, or even a functioning CT machine? It's sheer negligence!"

Tragically, this isn't the first incident of its kind at this hospital. Patients and locals have voiced concerns about the lack of qualified specialists and the subsequent preference for healthcare facilities in Jezkazgan or Karaganda.

Meruert Tamabekova, a local resident, shared her painful experience, "Exactly a year ago, my son died in this hospital after an appendectomy. This hospital can't even handle something as simple as this! We've repeatedly written to the regional health department and the ministry, but they've reveled in apathy."

Following the unfortunate incident, the hospital's director, his deputy, the surgeon, and the anesthesiologist were all temporarily removed from duty. Authorities promise to address the issues and upgrade the clinic. Yerkebulan Beysembayev, the deputy head of the health department in Ulytau region, assured, "We've appointed a new director today, a young one. Our aim is to eradicate such incidents from this clinic. The health department is making relentless efforts to bring this clinic up to standard. We're presently focusing on staffing and aim to fully staff this clinic within two months."

Residents of Zhanaarka are gathering evidence and samples to hold those responsible accountable for their family's tragedy.

Regrettably, the realm of healthcare across regions in Kazakhstan is fraught with lapses in regulation and numerous challenges. The scenario in Zhanaarka is not isolated, as medical negligence incidents have been observed in other regions like Karaganda and Abai.

In Karaganda, another man lost his life during surgery at a private clinic. His family has taken to social media to demand an investigation. Similarly, in late February, the death of a 34-year-old woman during childbirth at a district hospital in Abai region is being probed, with her child also not surviving.
