Matthew Perry's demise: "Ketamine Queen" to confess culpability

In a significant turn of events, Jasveen Sangha, known as the "Ketamine Queen," has agreed to plead guilty to five federal charges related to the sale of ketamine that led to the death of actor Matthew Perry in October 2023.

The charges include maintaining a drug-involved premises, distribution of ketamine, and distribution resulting in death or serious bodily injury. Sangha's plea deal means she will avoid the trial scheduled for late September 2025 and instead plead guilty in the coming weeks.

Perry, best known for his role in the hit TV show "Friends," was found dead in a hot tub at his Los Angeles home on October 28, 2023. An autopsy by the medical examiner found that he died from the effects of ketamine use, along with a heart condition and the effects of a medication used to treat opioid addiction.

Sangha was arrested in August 2024 and initially pleaded not guilty. However, she later agreed to plead guilty in August 2025.

Sentencing Implications

For the drug-involved premises count, Sangha faces up to 20 years in prison. Each ketamine distribution count carries up to 10 years, and the distribution resulting in death or serious bodily injury count carries up to 15 years. Overall, Sangha could potentially face up to 65 years in federal prison when sentenced, likely in the coming months after her plea.

Background

Prior to Sangha’s plea, others involved in the case included Dr. Mark Chavez, who admitted to conspiring to distribute ketamine and faces 10 years in prison. Two doctors, an assistant, and a friend of Perry's were also arrested and have pleaded guilty to supplying Perry with ketamine. They face maximum sentences ranging from 10 to 25 years.

Context

It is alleged that Sangha supplied the fatal dose of ketamine that led to Perry's death. On the day of Perry's death, his assistant is said to have administered at least three cans of ketamine to him at his request. However, it is not mentioned in this paragraph that Sangha is accused of supplying the ketamine in this instance.

Ketamine is a well-established anesthetic that has been used for decades. Under certain conditions, people with treatment-resistant depression can also be treated with ketamine. However, it is important to note that ketamine can be dangerous when misused, as seen in Perry's case.

This plea deal signifies Sangha taking full responsibility for her role in supplying the fatal ketamine dose to Perry. It concludes the legal proceedings against the last charged defendant in the case and sets the stage for sentencing based on these serious charges linked to a high-profile drug overdose death.
