Madison Officer and K9 Injured in Deliberate Crash
A Madison Police Department officer and his K9 partner were injured in a crash on Saturday. The incident occurred on the 1200 block of East Broadway, with the driver, Christopher Brugger, arrested for multiple offenses.
Brugger was fleeing police when he deliberately crashed into a squad car, according to Monona Police Department Chief Brian Chaney. Officer Ryan Kimberley, a K9 Handler, and his partner K9 Freddie Mercury were assisting in the pursuit. The collision resulted in severe injuries for Officer Kimberley, who has undergone several surgeries and faces a long recovery. K9 Freddie Mercury sustained minor injuries and is receiving care.
A fundraiser has been launched to support Officer Kimberley and his family. As of Tuesday afternoon, over $60,000 has been raised. The Madison Police Department offers resources for officers needing peer support or assistance during this challenging time.
Christopher Brugger was arrested for resisting and a parole violation, among other offenses. The Madison Police Department continues to investigate the incident, with Chief Chaney believing the crash was potentially intentional. Officer Kimberley and K9 Freddie Mercury are expected to make a full recovery.
