Lou Koller of Sick Of It All Battles Oesophageal Cancer Again
Lou Koller, the frontman of legendary hardcore punk band Sick Of It All, has been diagnosed with oesophageal cancer for the second time. The 57-year-old singer initially beat the disease in 2025 but has now faced a recurrence, with his recovery proving challenging.
Koller, who co-founded Sick Of It All in 1986 with his brother Pete, first received the devastating news in summer 2024. After undergoing chemotherapy in February 2025, he declared himself cancer-free in May of the same year. However, his cancer has now returned, causing concern among fans and the music community.
Oesophageal cancer is typically more common in men over 75, particularly those with a history of long-term acid reflux. Koller's case serves as a reminder that cancer can affect people of all ages. The band, which also includes Armand Majidi and Craig Setari, has cancelled all live plans since Koller's initial diagnosis in 2024, with no shows announced yet.
In response to Koller's first diagnosis, multiple New York bands came together to support him and the Sweet Relief Musicians Fund. They organised a benefit show called 'I'm In The Fight With Lou', demonstrating the outpouring of love and solidarity from the music community. A GoFundMe campaign also raised over $330,000 for Koller's medical expenses.
Koller's cancer recurrence has been a setback, but the outpouring of support from fans and the music community has been overwhelming. As he continues his fight, Sick Of It All fans and the wider music community await updates on his health and the band's future plans.
