Local Administration of Fokus

Detmold, a city officially designated as the focus municipality for sport and inclusion since mid-May 2025, has taken significant strides in promoting the participation of people with disabilities in sports. The driving force behind this initiative is the "Sport inclusive" project, funded by the LWL Social Foundation gGmbH and launched on July 1, 2023.

The "Sport inclusive" project, a beacon of inclusivity in Detmold's sports community, is spearheaded by the Detmolder Sportverein (DSV) (Detmold Sports Club). For inquiries about this project, residents can contact Daniela Lang, the designated contact person, at 05231 977 201 or via email at sportinklusiv@our website. The contact information is also available on the city portal and in a press release on the same platform.

Since the project's inception, the number of inclusive club offers in Detmold has seen a substantial increase, now standing at 24. To cater to the needs of people with cognitive impairments, the sports helper training is being adapted. As of now, 46 instructors have been specially trained for inclusive sport, with training costs covered by the project until April 2026.

Open sports offers such as the F.I.T. mobile, the open sports hall, and the Hermi run are now accessible and designed inclusively for everyone. The promotion of the participation of people with disabilities in sport will remain a central concern of Detmold's sports development planning even after the project has ended.

Detmold is also receiving additional support from Special Olympics NRW to further strengthen inclusion in sport and permanently anchor it in the city's society. The goal of the "Sport inclusive" project is to sustainably expand the range of movement and sports activities for people with disabilities and remove barriers.

Every Tuesday, from 10 to 13 o'clock, an open consultation hour is held at Heimspiel OWL, Market Square 3, for information, advice, and support on inclusive sports offers and funding opportunities. This initiative underscores Detmold's commitment to fostering an inclusive sports community.

In a city where inclusivity is at the forefront, the "Sport inclusive" project is a testament to Detmold's dedication to creating a more accessible and inclusive sports environment for all its residents.
