Livestock not posing health threat, assures Agriculture Authority
Kuwait's Public Authority for Agriculture Affairs and Fish Resources (PAAAFR) has given its residents and citizens the green light to consume meat and milk from cows infected with foot-and-mouth disease without any health worries.
PAAAFR's Director-General Salem Al-Hai stressed the organization's dedication to ridding the disease, working diligently towards the import of a vaccine set to arrive in early May.
In accordance with medical reports, the disease mainly hurts livestock economically by decreasing milk production yet does not compromise the safety of meat or dairy products for human consumption.
The disease, primarily striking cattle, was first detected on April 7 in Sulaibiya, and since then, it has spread to 10 farms, impacting 1,400 out of 23,000 cows. Despite the rapid spread, the scenario remains under control, as stated by Dr. Khaled Al-Fayez during an awareness seminar.
Though there seems to be no specific mention of Sulaibiya in the latest reports, the disease has been confirmed on multiple cattle farms across Kuwait. The Public Authority for Agriculture is actively monitoring the situation through lab tests to confirm the disease.
Regarding the vaccine, currently, specific arrival dates are not detailed in the available reports, but Kuwait is actively working on importing vaccines to combat the outbreak.
