Headline: American Foulbrood Eradicated in Fürth District, Protective Measures Lifted

In a significant development for the beekeeping community, the district of Fürth has successfully eradicated the highly infectious pathogen, American Foulbrood. This was confirmed through clinically unremarkable follow-up examinations of affected bee colonies.

The outbreak was first reported on 10.04.2025, with the State Office for Health and Food Safety detecting the pathogen in the animals in the area of the city of Zirndorf. In response, protective measures were ordered by the general decree of 11.04.2025 to safeguard against the spread of the disease.

The district office for Fürth can provide further information regarding American Foulbrood. They can be contacted at Im Pinderpark 4, 90513 Zirndorf, Tel.: 0911/9773-1901, E-Mail: [email protected].

On 28.08.2025, the protective measures against American Foulbrood in the district of Fürth were lifted with the special gazette No. 16a. While the name of the official or person involved in lifting the protection measures is not publicly disclosed, this decision was made due to the eradication of American Foulbrood in the district.

It is important to note that the consumption of honey from infected bee colonies is harmless to humans. The protective measures were ordered to protect against the spread of the disease among bee colonies, but there was no danger to the citizens.

This eradication marks a significant step towards maintaining the health of bee populations in the district of Fürth and the surrounding areas. The success of these efforts underscores the importance of vigilance and swift action in addressing threats to our ecosystems.
