Lessons from Lower Decks are Slowly Taking Shape in Practice
In the latest episode of Star Trek: Lower Decks, titled "Of Gods and Angels," the focus shifts from the main quartet to a new character: Ensign Olly, a demigod reminiscent of the alien-Greek-god character from the original Star Trek series episode "Who Mourns for Adonais?"
Olly, the newest crewmember of the USS Cerritos, finds himself in a precarious situation when he teams up with Lt. Beckett Mariner to search for the missing child of the orb leader during peace talks between two warring photonic civilizations aboard the Cerritos. His fear of speaking to Mariner early in the episode leads to complications that threaten to escalate the conflict between the Cubes and Orbs.
Meanwhile, Boimler, ever the eager beaver, joins Rutherford in copying alt-Boimler's padd to glean his personality. His efforts to form a friendship with Dr T'Ana, similar to his alt-universe self, do not go as planned. Things do not go as Boimler expects, and his beard becomes more prominent in the episode, a visual testament to his growing confidence.
