Clean Kazakhstan: A Nationwide Campaign Transforming Environmental Attitudes

Kazakhstan has launched a nationwide ecological campaign called Taza Kazakhstan, or "Clean Kazakhstan," with the aim of establishing a new national ideology of nature conservation. The campaign, initiated by President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev last year, has made significant progress and impact in environmental protection, waste management, and fostering a culture of environmental responsibility and sustainability.

The campaign has seen massive public participation, with over 9 million people joining its efforts across the country. This extensive citizen engagement is reflected in the organization of more than 900 clean-up events and the planting of approximately 2.5 million trees to restore and protect natural landscapes.

Deputy Minister Mansur Oshurbayev confirms that the ecological campaign is having a profound impact on public attitudes. The campaign is not just about waste management, but also about changing public attitudes towards the environment. It aims to transform individual values and public behavior towards cleanliness and environmental stewardship, embedding these ideas into daily life and public spaces.

The campaign is a continuous effort designed to change the way citizens perceive and engage with environmental challenges. It is not limited to addressing waste, but also aims to foster a culture of environmental responsibility and sustainability.

Kazakhstan is modernizing its environmental oversight with new laws and digital systems, including real-time emissions monitoring. This enhancement of the country’s capacity to track and respond promptly to environmental threats is a key part of the campaign.

Taza Kazakhstan establishes an overarching national ideology of nature conservation that unites communities, experts, and authorities in advancing Kazakhstan’s green transition. It elevates environmental care as a core component of national identity and sustainable development.

The ecological campaign in Kazakhstan is the subject of an episode of Modern Nomads, with reporter Tomiris Bilyal delving into its transformative effects on public attitudes across the country. The campaign involves communities, experts, and cutting-edge tools, making it a comprehensive approach to environmental protection and waste management.

In the face of climate risks such as floods, wildfires, and land degradation, this initiative is even more crucial for Kazakhstan’s environmental security and resilience. The campaign is a testament to Kazakhstan’s commitment to sustainable development and a greener future.
