Investigators Delve into the Distinctive Qualities of Clairaudient Psychic Mediums

Hear Ye, Hear Ye!

Strange happenings slicing through the silence? You're not alone! Researchers from Durham University and Northumbria University recently delved into the realm of the peculiar, investigating the peculiarities between a group of clairaudient spirit mediums - individuals who claim to hear the whispers of the deceased - and the average Joe.

The findings unveiled some intriguing traits that may make people more susceptible to this auditory abnormality.

"Spiritual nuts tend to report unusual auditory experiences that are positively charged, kick off early in life, and that they can often control," said the team of researchers. "Unraveling how these develop could help us get a grip on distressing or uncontrollable experiences with hearing voices too."

Another key element, they say, is a trait called absorption, which links to one's tendency to immerse themselves in experiences and thoughts.

To dive deeper, the researchers conducted a survey of 65 members of the U.K.'s Spiritualists' National Union who reported clairaudient experiences, along with 143 members of the general public. The participants ranged from 18 to 75 years old.

Amongst the spiritualist group, 44.6% reported daily clairaudient experiences. 79% had clairaudient experiences both while working as mediums and while not working. Some fascinating data: 65.1% described the voices as originating inside their noggin, while 31.7% reported the voices as both inside and outside their head. 3.2% said the voices were always on the outside.

The study also found that the surveyed clairaudient mediums usually adopted Spiritualism because these beliefs resonated with their personal experiences, rather than simply believing in the paranormal from the get-go.

According to the study's lead researcher Dr. Adam Powell, "the tenets of Spiritualism seem to mesh with both extraordinary childhood experiences as well as the frequent auditory phenomena they experience as practicing mediums."

Fun Fact: Spiritualism and absorption? Could be the keys to unlocking the gateway to ghostly gossip!

In the ongoing quest for understanding strange phenomena, the intersections of science, health-and-wellness, and mental health are becoming increasingly evident. The study on clairaudient mediums revealed that the tendency to immerse oneself in experiences and thoughts, known as absorption, could potentially explain heightened auditory experiences. The same study found that these experiences, often positive and controllable, are more common among spiritualists.
