Indian Man Removes 50 Swallowed Objects in Successful Surgery
A 40-year-old man in Hapur, India, has undergone a successful five-hour operation at Devnandani Hospital to remove multiple objects he had swallowed over weeks. The man, who has a history of substance abuse, had previously been admitted to a de-addiction center. Doctors suspect his unusual behavior may be linked to pica disorder.
The man, in protest while being kept at the center, swallowed a total of 50 objects. These included 29 steel spoons, 19 toothbrushes, and two pens. During the operation, surgeons found 28 broken spoon heads and 21 headless toothbrush parts, totaling 50 pieces. Despite the successful removal, the man is now recovering and will require ongoing psychiatric evaluation to prevent recurrence.
The man's unusual behavior, which led to him swallowing multiple objects, may be linked to pica disorder, a psychiatric condition that compels individuals to consume non-food items. He is now recovering from the operation and will undergo further evaluation to manage his condition and prevent future incidents.
