Highlights Performance Milestones and Emergency Enhancements Presented in the Mid-Year Review by the Ministry of Health
The Ministry of Health in Kuwait has made significant strides in the first half of 2025, focusing on expanding healthcare services, improving emergency response, and advancing digital health initiatives.
Expansion of Healthcare Services
The Ministry has opened 13 specialized health centers at all border points and a new medical center at the Nuwaiseeb border crossing. Currently, 117 primary care centers operate nationwide, with extended hours and diverse outpatient clinics, including 38 maternity and childhood clinics, 72 mental health clinics, and more. A new MRI wing at Al-Razi Hospital has doubled its diagnostic capacity.
Emergency Response Improvements
Emergency medical services have shown remarkable resilience, handling around 200,000 cases in January alone and responding to 86,860 urgent and non-urgent cases in the first half of the year. 72,236 patients were transported by ambulance, with traffic accident cases declining from January through June, attributed to new traffic laws implemented in May. To improve cardiac arrest emergency response times, 20 defibrillator devices were installed at Kuwait International Airport, accompanied by staff training programs.
Digital Health Initiatives
The Ministry is committed to enhancing digital services to improve healthcare delivery. This includes integrating digital solutions for better health outcomes, supporting service coordination, and expanding telehealth capabilities.
Other notable achievements include the launch of traveler services, including vaccination clinics and digital maps. The Ministry has also introduced the "First Responder" service with 28 field units, improving emergency response times. The Ministry has clarified its regulatory role in health insurance hospitals and issued guidelines for vaccinations ahead of Umrah or visiting the Prophet's Mosque. Pre-booking appointments for visiting doctors are now available online.
The Ministry is also recruiting about 300 nurses monthly from abroad to meet healthcare demands. A new triage system based on Canadian standards has been adopted, and a new MRI wing was opened at Al-Razi Hospital, along with a full-service medical center at the Nuwaiseeb border crossing.
These accomplishments reflect a comprehensive approach to improving healthcare access, quality, and emergency preparedness in the country during the first half of 2025. The Ministry's efforts to promote transparency and counter misinformation, coupled with international cooperation, have played a crucial role in these advancements.
