Healthcare Provider Primarily Honored for Outstanding Social Responsibility by Lown Institute on a National Scale
Prime Healthcare, a leading national health system, has once again proven its commitment to excellence, as 46 of its hospitals earned "A" grades in the 2025-26 Lown Institute Hospitals Index. This prestigious recognition highlights Prime Healthcare's exceptional performance in health equity, patient outcomes, and value of care.
Based in Ontario, California, Prime Healthcare operates 51 hospitals and over 360 outpatient locations in 14 states, providing over 2.5 million patient visits annually. Among more than 3,500 hospitals evaluated nationwide, Prime hospitals stood out for their exceptional performance.
The Lown Institute Hospitals Index evaluates hospitals on over 50 measures, including community benefit, racial inclusivity, and avoidance of overuse. Prime Healthcare's hospitals have been named among the nation's "100 Top Hospitals" 72 times and are one of Healthgrades' most awarded health systems for patient safety.
Health equity is a key focus for Prime Healthcare. The system delivers care that addresses disparities and the true impact on the communities they serve. Garden City Hospital, located in Michigan, ranked No. 1 in the state for Patient Safety, while East Liverpool City Hospital, based in Ohio, topped the list for Social Responsibility and Pay Equity. North Vista Hospital, in Nevada, ranked No. 1 for Social Responsibility, Health Equity, Community Benefit, Inclusivity, and Racial Inclusivity.
Prime Healthcare's hospitals have also demonstrated clinical excellence. Many have earned high-performance ratings in multiple clinical areas from U.S. News & World Report, Healthgrades, and other national benchmarks. For instance, Saint Clare's Denville, in New Jersey, ranked No. 1 in the state for Avoiding Overuse, while Saint Francis Hospital, in Illinois, topped the nation for Pay Equity and was the best in Illinois for Pay Equity.
Operational discipline is another strength for Prime Healthcare. The system emphasizes value by aligning strong financial and operational discipline with quality care delivery. This focus on operational efficiency ensures sustainability while maintaining clinical quality, which supports the index's measures of appropriate care that balances cost and outcome.
Community engagement is also a significant part of Prime Healthcare's success. Several of its hospitals were recognised on Becker’s 100 Great Community Hospitals list, emphasising excellent patient safety, expanded access, and ongoing community health improvement efforts.
Prime Healthcare's social responsibility practices are also noteworthy. They include transparent reporting, quality improvement initiatives, and maintaining consistent patient safety standards, as indicated by multiple awards from Healthgrades, Leapfrog, and the Lown Institute index itself.
Four Prime Healthcare hospitals earned a spot on the prestigious Lown Institute Honor Roll, receiving straight "A" grades across all measured categories.
