Here's a straightforward take on the ongoing predicament of medical practices in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern grappling with a dearth of Medical Assistants (MFAs).
The Association of Statutory Health Insurance Physicians Mecklenburg-Vorpommern (KVMV) has voiced concerns about the lack of MFAs in the region. As per the Association of Medical Professions (VMF), there were approximately 6,422 MFAs working in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern practices in mid-20XX. But, as demographics tend to do, this number has been declining since 20XX, as mentioned by VMF President Hannelore König.
Why are MFAs taking off? Well, it seems the pay doesn't quite match up to the responsibility, daily stress, and other pressures they face compared to other healthcare professions, according to König.

Looking ahead, as the baby boomer generation retires and more MFAs are needed to support physicians, the shortage is likely to intensify. To reduce this, the KVMV recommends increasing MFA training placements and actively promoting the training of MFAs.
On a positive note, the VMF has been successful in raising MFA wages in recent years. However, the gap between their pay and that of comparable professions remains vast. MFAs, after all, have the same training duration and patient responsibility as nursing professionals, according to the VMF President.
To fix this, the KVMV suggests co-financing wage increases, similar to nursing, so that the increases in collective wages are fully taken into account when financing the services provided by practicing physicians. Addressing competition distortions between medical practices and clinics would also help alleviate the shortage, particularly in larger cities and areas close to clinics.
