Health professionals issue warnings about the harmful effects of smoking

In a recent statement made on Russia-1, TV host and doctor Alexander Myasnikov compared hookah smoking to cigarette smoking, emphasizing the harmful substances inhaled during both activities. The report, based on information from gazeta.ru, was also reported by Almaty.tv.

Myasnikov's statement reinforces the association between hookah smoking and the inhalation of harmful substances. He cited a study published in the American Journal of Preventive Medicine in 2019, which found that a 45-minute session of hookah smoking is equivalent in toxin exposure to smoking about 100 or more cigarettes.

According to Myasnikov, smoking a hookah for 45 minutes is equivalent to smoking a pack and a half of cigarettes in terms of harmful substances inhaled. He stated that inhaling micro-particles of combustion during hookah smoking can potentially lead to lung cancer, but did not specify the exact harmful substances involved that lead to cancer.

Myasnikov also pointed out that each puff during hookah smoking may cause a micro-burn in the lungs, and that the micro-particles of combustion that remain in the mouth during hookah smoking can cause cancer in the oral cavity. However, he did not differentiate between the types of cancer that can be caused by hookah smoking.

Myasnikov emphasized that there's no such thing as safe smoking, and that his comparison between hookah and cigarette smoking in terms of harmful substances inhaled still holds. The report does not provide new information about the source or context of Myasnikov's statement.
