Health Care Services Focused on Wellness and Disease Prevention

In an effort to provide a seamless and positive return to campus for students coming back from medical leave, our institution is offering a range of resources and support services. At the heart of these efforts is the Office of Student Health Promotion and Prevention, a dedicated team that focuses on mental, emotional, and physical well-being, as well as physical and sexual safety, and environmental wellness.

The Office of Student Health Promotion and Prevention offers a variety of services to cater to the diverse needs of students. These include preventative services and campaigns, health education and promotions, harm reduction services, suicide prevention gatekeeper training, and a wellness ambassadors program comprising certified peer educators. Additionally, the office provides academic resources, training, and consultations to help students navigate their reintegration process.

The institution is committed to supporting students every step of the way, recognising the importance of addressing each dimension of wellness – physical, emotional, social, intellectual, financial, spiritual, occupational, and environmental – in fostering a holistic approach to well-being. By encouraging students to adopt this holistic approach, the office aims to build resilience, improve academic and personal success, and create a supportive community that values each individual's growth and quality of life.

In the upcoming Fall 2025, a new program called "Don't Cancel Class!" will be introduced to further promote a culture of care on campus. Students are encouraged to schedule an appointment to discuss their reintegration process and access the wealth of resources available to them. For more information and consultation, students can contact Dr. Tara T. Woods, Director of Student Health Promotion and Prevention Services, at [twoods1@our website](mailto:twoods1@our website).

By recognising and addressing each dimension of wellness, the office creates opportunities for students to access resources and participate in activities that promote mental and physical health, social connection, and personal development. This comprehensive approach normalises self-care, reduces stigma around mental health, and encourages students to support one another, ultimately creating a more inclusive and caring campus climate.
