Conversely, communities like Boltenhagen, Rerik, and Usedom lack smoke-free zones. Here, ashtrays are provided instead. Even within MV, there are some destinations where initiatives to designate smoke-free beach areas have been withdrawn, as in Koserow.
The increased focus on public health and environmental concerns, coupled with the growing number of smoker-sensitive travelers, may prompt more coastal towns to explore the implementation of smoke-free beach zones in the future. However, for now, the decision ultimately lies with each municipality, and complaints about smoke pollution on beaches remain relatively low.
