Annual Safety Event for Student-Athletes, known as Lifesavers Luau, to be held by One Shot Foundation on August 2 in Erlanger.

Foundation's one-off occasion, Lifesavers Luau, focusing on student-athlete safety, scheduled for Aug. 2 in Erlanger.

The Matthew Mangine, Jr. One Shot Foundation is set to host its inaugural Lifesavers Luau on August 2, 2025, at the Receptions Event Center in Erlanger, Kentucky. This tropical-themed event, focused on student-athlete safety, aims to educate and empower attendees—coaches, parents, students, and community members—to respond effectively in sports-related emergencies[1][2].

The Lifesavers Luau offers a variety of components aimed at improving student-athlete safety. A panel discussion titled "Keeping Your Student-Athlete Safe" will feature experts such as athletic directors, heart health advocates, and investigative reporters who focus on high school athlete safety[2]. Attendees will also have the opportunity to participate in hands-on training in hands-only CPR and automated external defibrillator (AED) use, equipping them with critical life-saving skills[1][2]. Informational booths will provide educational resources and foster awareness[2].

The event is particularly timely, as millions of students are returning to athletic programs this fall. Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA) is the leading cause of death for student-athletes, and about 3.5 million kids suffer sports-related injuries each year in the U.S.[1] With only 37% of U.S. public high schools employing a full-time athletic trainer[1], the need for community preparedness is paramount. The Foundation emphasizes that lifesaving actions can be taken by anyone trained, not just certified professionals, to enhance safety and save lives during emergencies[1].

The Mangine family's foundation has been instrumental in promoting student-athlete safety. Since its inception in 2021, it has donated approximately 100 AEDs to schools and athletic organizations, and provided over $100,000 in emergency medical and training equipment[1]. The foundation has also trained over 26,000 people in TAKE10 (hands-only) CPR[1].

The Lifesavers Luau takes place from 5-9 p.m. at Receptions Event Center in Erlanger. Tickets for student-athletes are $15, while athletic trainers, coaches, and other school personnel pay $30. Community members pay $40. Event details can be found on the foundation's website: www.oneshot.life.

By attending the Lifesavers Luau, attendees can enjoy a buffet dinner and complimentary drinks while learning how to save lives. The event promises to be an engaging and informative evening, fostering a sense of community and empowering individuals to make a difference in student-athlete safety.
