Foundation's Budget-Friendly Face Cream Takes the Top Spot in Product Test

Neutrogena's Hydro Boost Aqua Cream Tops Stiftung Warentest's Test for Dry Skin

In a recent test by Stiftung Warentest, the Hydro Boost Aqua facial cream from Neutrogena stood out as the top choice for those with dry skin. This affordable cream, priced at around 10 euros for 50 millilitres, secured the top position with a total score of 1.9, thanks to its exceptional performance in the category of moisture enrichment.

The test involved 22 women between the ages of 20 and 70 who used each cream for two weeks. The Hydro Boost Aqua cream was the only product to achieve a "Very Good" rating in the category of moisture enrichment, as measured by the water content in the outermost skin layer using a Corneometer.

The cream's light, gel-like texture absorbs quickly and does not leave a greasy film, making it suitable for normal to combination skin. It contains hyaluronic acid, which is said to provide intense moisture and a pleasant skin feel.

Other evaluation criteria included application and skin feel, packaging, and labeling claims. However, the superior hydration effect of the Hydro Boost Aqua cream was a key factor in its overall quality grade and clearly distinguished it from competitors.

Interestingly, the more expensive Nutrix nourishing and soothing cream from Lancôme performed less convincingly in the same test, receiving a total score of 3.5.

It's worth noting that skincare goes beyond just using creams. Skin experts stress the importance of factors like sun protection, adequate sleep, and a healthy diet. Regular cleansing also protects the skin against harmful environmental influences, such as fine dust.

For those seeking a budget-friendly yet effective moisturiser, the Hydro Boost Aqua cream from Neutrogena could be a good choice. The sun cream test winners for 2025 can be found on the Stiftung Warentest website. However, remember that oversized packaging of some creams can be misleading, suggesting more content but not necessarily offering better performance.
