YO, IT'S LEILA:

Ukraine's been a warzone for over three years, and Playboy Ukraine's latest photoshoot ain't about naked chicks. Nah, it's about badass women who've been through the ringer, rocking all sorts of Ukrainian clothing while flaunting their scars. NPR's Polina Lytvynova chatted with one of those ladies.

OLHA DIATLIUK: (Speaking Ukrainian)

POLINA: We're hearin' from Olha Diatliuk, a 35-year-old gal from Vinnytsia. Her life's splittin' into two parts – before and after July 14, 2014. That's when a Russian missile hit a clinic in Vinnytsia. Olha was there with her mother-in-law, and bam, the explosion broke her ribs, messed up her hearing, and burned her arm. When medics tried to treat her, she screamed like a banshee.

OLHA: (Speaking Ukrainian)

POLINA: "It was fuckin' painful, man. The whole clinic could hear me," she said. "Every time they changed the bandage, it felt like they were peelin' my skin off." Her hubby, Yurii, took care of her.

OLHA: (Speaking Ukrainian)

POLINA: "I asked him if he'd still love me with this wounded arm," she said, "and he just laughed and said, of course." Yurii was a soldier, and a year after the missile strike, he got killed on the front lines.

OLHA: (Speaking Ukrainian)

POLINA: "First the Russians messed up my body, then they stole my heart," Olha said. After Yurii's death, she fell into a depression, only wearin' black and not botherin' with her hair or makeup. But then she remembered how much Yurii loved her despite her scars. To get over her body, she did a couple of photo shoots, and that's how she ended up in Playboy Ukraine's latest issue as part of the "Beauty with Scars" project.

OLHA: (Speaking Ukrainian)

POLINA: "Scars ain't shameful," she said. "They show our strength."

That's right, folks. Playboy Ukraine ain't just about boobs and butts anymore. They're now showin' off the strength and resilience of women who've been through the wringer. And Olha's one of 'em. She lost her arm in an explosion, and her man still loved her for it. After he died, she fell into a deep depression but eventually decided to embrace her wounds and take part in Playboy's latest photoshoot. She looked intense in one picture, lookin' at her disfigured arm in the mirror.
