Breaking News: Tomato Recall on High Alert
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has issued a Class I warning for a recall affecting tomatoes from Williams Farms Repack LLC, due to a potential salmonella contamination. This recall, announced on May 28, signifies a severe health risk, as it could lead to serious adverse health consequences or even death.
Originally, the recall was initiated by Williams Farms Repack LLC on May 2, following a notification that their tomatoes, sourced from H&C Farms, may have been contaminated with salmonella.
Salmonella is a type of bacteria and a common culprit for fatal foodborne illnesses in the United States, according to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
The symptoms of salmonella infection range from asymptomatic in some cases to diarrhea, fever, stomach pain, or serious complications. While most individuals will recover without treatment, high-risk groups, such as children under 5 and the elderly, may experience more severe illness. No reports of illnesses were made at the time of the recall announcement.
The affected tomatoes were sold across Georgia, North Carolina, and South Carolina, in nine different package sizes, between April 23 and 28. Here's a list of the affected products:
- 4x5 two layer, Williams Farms Repack label, lot code R4467
