Dormagen, Germany - Latest Addition to Emergency Services
The city of Dormagen has welcomed a new ambulance into its emergency services. The vehicle, a Mercedes Sprinter, is equipped with a 140 KW engine to ensure swift response times. During a ceremony attended by Mayor Erik Lierenfeld, Fire Department Chief Bernd Eckhardt, and Head of Rescue Service Achim Mittnacht, the benefits of the new ambulance were highlighted.
Unlike traditional models, the new vehicle features an electrohydraulic stretcher that significantly reduces the physical effort required by rescue workers. The stretcher can be electrically raised and lowered and easily maneuvered into the ambulance, allowing for increasedcomfort and reduced stress for patients. This design is expected to minimize injuries to shoulder and knee joints, as well as potential stress on the spine.
A standout feature of the vehicle is its direct communication capability with a "tele-notarzt." This service offers remote medical advice until an on-site doctor arrives, although the equipment for this function is not yet activated.
The new ambulance is adorned with the city's coat of arms, featuring the Julich lion, making it easily identifiable at a distance. The cost of the new vehicle amounts to €310,000. Next year, two more ambulances of the same type are planned for purchase.
