Beiersdorf, the German company behind popular brands like Nivea and Tesa, has announced a lower revenue forecast for the year 2022. This decision comes in the wake of a slowdown in the skin care sector, which has affected demand for Beiersdorf's products.

In the first half of the year, Beiersdorf's total revenue stood at around 5.2 billion euros. However, the company's skin care business, a significant portion of its revenue, is currently experiencing a decline. The second quarter results for this business showed a decrease in sales compared to previous quarters, reflecting the slowdown in the sector.

The consumer division of Beiersdorf, which includes the Nivea brand, experienced a slowdown in growth, reaching 1.5 percent in the current quarter. Tesa's adhesive division also saw a decrease in organic revenue, with a fall of 3.7 percent in the same period.

Beiersdorf has revised its revenue expectations for the year 2022, now expecting organic growth of around three percent. This is a significant drop from the previous target of four to six percent.

The company attributes this slowdown to weaker consumer demand and challenging market conditions. Nivea showed only modest performance in slower markets and faced strong prior-year comparisons, while Tesa's growth was hindered despite strong performance in its Electronics business.

Declining confidence in management and concerns about the health of the Nivea brand have also contributed to the cautious outlook and lower sales performance. The broader skin care market is experiencing challenges such as changing consumer behaviors and economic headwinds, which have affected companies like Beiersdorf.

Despite these challenges, Beiersdorf managed to achieve organic growth of 2.1 percent in the first half of the year, excluding acquisitions and disposals and currency effects. The skin care business posted growth of 1.9 percent in the same period, based in Hamburg, Germany, where Beiersdorf is headquartered.

Beiersdorf has not provided further details about the second quarter results yet, as they will be discussed in more detail on Wednesday. The company remains optimistic about the future, stating that it is taking measures to adapt to the changing market conditions and is focused on long-term growth.
