Drug scene in Almaty remains steady

In the heart of Kazakhstan, the city of Almaty is maintaining a stable supply of COVID-19-related healthcare products, according to the latest updates from city authorities.

Mayor Baktijan Sagintayev has initiated a weekly monitoring of hospital, clinic, and pharmacy supplies to ensure the city's readiness in the face of the ongoing pandemic.

The supply of medical masks in city pharmacies stands at a robust 95%, with an approximately 90% availability of COVID-19 treatment drugs. This high level of supply is a testament to the city's efforts to stock necessary medicines and medical products, as part of the stabilization measures implemented by the Kazakhstan government in mid-2020.

The city has received more drugs and medical devices than originally planned, with a total of 23.8 million units currently in stock in city pharmacies. This represents an impressive 118% of the planned amount, indicating a strategic reserve of 8 million drugs, ensuring a two-month supply.

The overall situation regarding drugs and medical masks in Almaty is stable, with no high demand for these essential items reported. Thermometers, another crucial tool in the fight against COVID-19, are also well-stocked. As of now, 456,000 thermometers are in pharmacies, and an additional 150,000 are expected to be delivered in February.

Six major domestic companies have a combined daily production capacity of 1 million masks, ensuring a steady supply. There are 15 suppliers with a current stock of 26.2 million masks, and masks are delivered to pharmacies daily.

The supply of pharmaceuticals to city pharmacies is funded by the National Fund, ensuring continuous access to these vital resources. No specific or updated reports mentioning shortages or surpluses in Almaty hospitals or pharmacies have surfaced from publicly accessible recent press or government releases, further indicating the city's successful management of its COVID-19 supplies.

While direct contact with local health authorities or pharmaceutical distributors in Almaty would provide precise, real-time supply status, the current indicators suggest that Kazakhstan, including Almaty, continues efforts to maintain adequate supply levels for COVID-19-related healthcare products, influenced by government management and international support.
