Dementia Caregivers in Uckermark Get Support: Workshop Series Launches This Fall
Over 2500 people in the Uckermark region live with dementia or Alzheimer's disease, with Prenzlau alone caring for over 500. Families and professionals provide support, but the role is demanding. To aid caregivers, the Demenznetzwerk Uckermark offers a workshop series this fall.
The workshop, 'Conducting case discussions on dealing with challenging behavior of people with dementia or Alzheimer's disease', is led by psychologist Christine Ilgert, M.Sc. It aims to teach participants how to reflect difficult situations and develop solution strategies as a team. The series takes place at the AWO Seniorenhaus 'Thomas Muentzer-Platz' in Prenzlau on October 15, November 12, December 17, 2025, and January 14, 2026, from 3 to 6 p.m.
Caregiving, especially for those with dementia or Alzheimer's disease, is highly demanding. A study by the AOK federal association found caregivers are almost twice as likely to suffer from burnout. The workshop series seeks to equip caregivers with tools to manage stress and challenging behaviors.
The workshop series costs 160 € for members and 200 € for non-members. It is a four-part series requiring full participation for certification. Registrations must be made by email to [email protected]. Dr. Jürgen Hein, psychiatrist and chairman of the Demenznetzwerk Uckermark, emphasizes the importance of supporting family members and caregivers in managing dementia and Alzheimer's disease.
