Cutting-edge child services now accessible in Astana
In the heart of the capital, Hospital No2 continues to make strides in the realm of paediatric healthcare, offering a unique blend of advanced surgeries and free treatment for children.
One of the most significant developments at the hospital is the introduction of oncoprothesis, a specialised direction in pediatric orthopedics, which has been funded by the Ministry of Health. This expensive procedure, typically used in hip prosthesis, is now available for children in need.
The orthopedics department at Hospital No2, which began offering hip replacement surgery at the end of 2024, has already performed seven such surgeries. Three more are planned for the remainder of the year.
Hip replacements are not the only high-tech surgeries being performed at the hospital. Micro-surgical operations in pediatric orthopedics, which can cost around 800,000 tenge each, are also part of the hospital's repertoire.
In the field of neurosurgery, the hospital has performed 39 surgeries this year, totalling 68 million tenge. One of the most remarkable cases involved the successful removal of a brain tumour from a three-month-old baby. This operation, along with other complex neurosurgeries, is made possible by the use of special plates, neuronavigation, and neuromonitoring.
Hearing restoration is another key area of work at Hospital No2, particularly in cochlear implantation. Over the past seven months, the hospital has conducted 68 such surgeries, totaling over 536 million tenge. In 2024 alone, 108 cochlear implant surgeries were performed, costing approximately 827 million tenge.
It's worth noting that all surgeries at Hospital No2 are free for children, thanks to the mandatory social medical insurance system (OMS). This means that despite the high costs associated with these advanced procedures, families do not bear the financial burden.
Hospital No2 is the only children's hospital in the capital that offers specialized surgical care. Its services extend beyond orthopedics and neurosurgery, with otorhinolaryngology (ear, nose, and throat) also being part of its offerings.
Previously, unique operations were conducted on five yet-to-be-born twins in Kazakhstan, further highlighting the hospital's commitment to pioneering paediatric healthcare.
In a world where healthcare costs can be a significant concern, Hospital No2 stands as a beacon of hope, providing free, advanced care to children in need.
