Commission's Role in Compiling a Report on the Status Within the Community
In a significant step towards supporting victims of sexual assault, the city of Gießen will be introducing an additional action within the International Day Against Violence in November. This initiative is part of a larger project, which is one of the 14 model cities participating in the 'Frankfurter Frauen-Notruf e.V.' initiative in Hesse.
The project, led by the Offices for Women and Equal Opportunities of the City of Gießen, is unique as it allows for anonymous evidence preservation as part of medical care. This means that victims can have evidence collected and stored anonymously, providing them with the opportunity to create some distance and, at a later stage, possibly with the support of a trusted person, file a report.
The medical care within the project remains fundamentally confidential. Neither the hospital nor a counseling centre can file a report against the victim's will. The University Clinics of Gießen and Marburg, along with the Forensic Institute at the Institute for Legal Medicine, are responsible for the medical care and evidence preservation after acts of sexual violence.
The evidence materials from the preservation are stored for a year, only when a report is made are they handed over to the police for use in investigations. It's important to note that the campaign aims to raise awareness that sexual violence is never the victim's fault, regardless of clothing, appearance, or behavior. The responsibility for sexual violence always lies with the perpetrator.
The pharmacy at Ludwigsplatz cooperates in providing medication as needed for victims. Psychological and social care for the victims is taken care of by the intervention centre against domestic violence of SKF e.V., Pro Familia Gießen e.V., the Gießen Help e.V., and Wildwasser.
Starting in September, a bus with a poster about the 'Medical Immediate Help After Sexual Assault' project will be on the streets of Gießen, raising further awareness about this crucial service. The project is supported by the Hessian Ministry of Labor, Integration, Youth & Social Affairs.
While the 13 additional cities in Hesse participating in the model project are not explicitly listed in the available search results, it's clear that this initiative is making a significant impact in the fight against sexual violence across the region.
