Cleric Apprehended as Student Suffers Rape, Forced Abortion: Police Report

In a shocking turn of events, a cleric in Meerut, Uttar Pradesh, was arrested on July 4, 2025, for the alleged rape of a 22-year-old madrassa student. The victim, who hails from Bihar, had been at the seminary for three years. She accused the cleric of multiple rapes and also implicated his wife in the crime, alleging abetment and threats.

According to the Meerut Superintendent of Police, Ayush Vikram Singh, the investigation is ongoing, and the accused and the victim are reportedly related. An FIR has been registered, and the victim's statements have been recorded.

This case bears a chilling resemblance to an earlier incident reported in June 2025 in Hapur district, near Meerut. A 45-year-old cleric was arrested for repeatedly raping a 14-year-old girl over two months inside a madrassa. The cleric allegedly threatened the girl against reporting the crime and assaulted several other teenage girls at the madrassa. The medical examination supported the rape allegations, and an FIR was filed under relevant sections including the POCSO Act.

Comparing the two cases, the victims' ages differ significantly, with the July victim being 22 years old and the June victim being 14. The July victim is from Bihar, while the June victim is local to Hapur district. The nature of the crimes also varies, with the July case involving repeated rape and forced abortion, and the June case involving repeated rape, threats, and multiple victims alleged.

In both cases, the accused were clerics, and an FIR was registered upon arrest. The ongoing investigation into the July case continues, with further updates awaited from local authorities.

This incident serves as a grim reminder of the need for stricter measures to ensure the safety and security of students in educational institutions. It is crucial that such incidents are reported and addressed promptly to protect the vulnerable and uphold justice.

The ongoing investigation into the July case reinforces the need for stricter measures in health-and-wellness, specifically sexual-health, within educational institutions like madrassas. This is evident as the July case involves repeated rape and forced abortion, a serious violation of general-news norms and the POCSO Act. Meanwhile, crime-and-justice authorities are also dealing with a similar incident from June in Hapur district, underscoring the necessity of prompt reporting and addressing of such crimes for the protection of the vulnerable and upholding justice.
