Citizens' Council Representation from Saarland in the Established Body
Let's Set the Table, Saarland Style!
Gear up, folks! The first meeting of Germany's prestigious Citizens' Council, convened by the German Bundestag to address the pressing issue of nutrition, is set to commence on September 29. Two lucky cats from Saarland will have a chance to share their two cents concerning the topic "Nutrition in Transition: Balancing Personal Preference and Public Duties."
The Citizens' Council, a brainchild of the German Bundestag announced back on May 10, is all about putting the people first. Out of an initial pool of nearly 19,400 individuals, 160 were handpicked through a high-tech algorithm to represent various walks of life across the nation.
Ready to represent, Saarland? Two individuals hailing from our home turf made the cut from the 236 invitations sent out from the region.
The Citizens' Council will gather in Berlin for three face-to-face sessions and six virtual meetings over the following months to delve deep into nutrition policy matters. Experts from diverse fields will participate, aiming to shed light on alternative viewpoints in the nutrition debate and answer council members' burning questions.
In addition to the discussions and debates, members can expect fascinating excursions – farm and food producer visits, mingling with the bigwigs of the Bundestag, and more!
By February 29, 2024, the citizens' council will present their recommendations to the Bundestag in the form of a citizens' report. Once the cat's out of the bag, these suggestions will be mulled over in the Bundestag and its respective committees, potentially leading to action.
