Chef's collaborative kitchen and robot technology fusion
In the heart of TU Dresden, the Barkhausen Building played host to a significant event as the Centre for Tactile Internet with Human-in-the-Loop (CeTI) Excellence Cluster unveiled its new facility, CeTIBAR. The occasion was graced by representatives from TU Dresden, the Fraunhofer Institute, and associated research and industry partners.
The CeTIBAR, a key component of the CeTI Excellence Cluster, is situated within the Barkhausen Building. Its aim is to make the capabilities of collaborative robots, or 'cobots', tangible, and to foster an exchange among researchers from all disciplines within the Excellence Cluster.
Doreen Böttcher, science communicator at the CeTI Excellence Cluster, underscored the CeTI's mission to promote dialogue and understanding of new technologies. She emphasised that the CeTI, nestled in the heart of the TUD main campus, is committed to this goal.
The opening event showcased the culinary skills of cobots. These robots, designed to work alongside humans, handled simple tasks like plating, serving, and garnishing. The goal was not to replace human labour but to support it, freeing up time for creativity.
Benjamin Biedlingmaier, a celebrity chef, collaborated with cobots to prepare a feast, demonstrating the potential of these machines in practical applications.
TU Dresden President Prof. Ursula M. Staudinger highlighted that TU Dresden is a pioneer and driver of innovation in the field of human-machine interaction through the Excellence Cluster CeTI. She emphasised that the researches conducted by CeTI are crucial for the technically supported social participation of all and the economic development of Dresden and Saxony.
The modern facilities of the CeTI Excellence Cluster were inaugurated in the presence of high-ranking guests, including Saxon Minister President Michael Kretschmer, Science Minister Sebastian Gemkow, and the President of TU Dresden, Prof. Ursula M. Staudinger.
The CeTIBAR focuses on robotics and the future of the tactile internet. It is part of the broader Excellence Cluster CeTI, which aims to inspire the next generation of innovators. Through interactive exhibits, workshops, and lectures, the CeTI Excellence Cluster seeks to foster a culture of innovation and creativity.
