In the heart of Detroit, during a festival in 2013, an unexpected event unfolded for Three Days Grace's guitarist, Barry Stock. Amidst the rhythm and energy of a seven-minute drum solo by Neil Sanderson, Stock found himself in the midst of a heart attack[2][4][6].

The specific location of the festival was on the north side of Detroit, and fortunately for Stock, the Beaumont, a renowned heart specialist hospital, was just two minutes away from the venue[1][3][5]. This proximity proved crucial, as Stock was swiftly taken to the hospital and underwent an EKG[2][4].

Doctors confirmed his worst fears, telling him he was having a heart attack[2][4]. Despite the gravity of the situation, Stock recounts his hospital experience as "interesting"[7]. In a recent interview with Ultimate Guitar, he shared his experience in detail[8].

Initially, Stock thought he was suffering from severe heartburn[2]. However, as the symptoms persisted, his bandmates convinced him to seek medical attention after the show[1]. Stock continued playing despite not feeling well and counting down the remaining songs[1].

In denial about the severity of his condition and not believing he was too young for a heart attack, Stock was initially reluctant to accept the gravity of his situation[1]. However, the care he received at the Beaumont was instrumental in his recovery.

Following his recovery, Stock made significant lifestyle changes, quitting smoking and drinking, and adopting a healthier lifestyle while on tour[1][3].

Three Days Grace is now preparing for the release of their new album, Alienation, set for release on August 22[9]. The band will embark on a co-headline North American tour with Breaking Benjamin[10]. Despite the harrowing experience, Stock and Three Days Grace continue to create and perform music, inspiring fans worldwide.
