In a recent development, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has announced a listeria recall involving Rich's Ice Cream Co. The recall affects approximately 110,292 cases of various ice cream bars, distributed across 23 states in the US and the Nassau, Bahamas.

The recalled products include popular flavours such as Chocolate Crunch Cake Bar, Strawberry Shortcake Bar, Rich Bar, Crumbled Cookie Bar, Orange Cream Bar, Fudge Frenzy Bar, Cotton Candy Twirl Bar, Savegely Sour BlueRasberry Bar, Savagely Sour Cherry Bar, and Cool Watermelon Bar.

The recall, initially announced in late June 2025, has been updated to a Class II recall, indicating the products may cause temporary or medically reversible adverse health effects but are unlikely to cause severe consequences for most people. No illnesses related to this recall have been reported so far.

Listeriosis, the foodborne bacterial infection caused by listeria monocytogenes, is a serious condition, particularly dangerous for older adults, people with weak immune systems, and pregnant women. Symptoms include fever, muscle aches, headache, stiff neck, confusion, loss of balance, convulsions, diarrhea, stomach issues, miscarriage/stillbirth/premature delivery, or death. It is the third leading cause of death from foodborne illness in the US, with approximately 260 deaths annually.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has stated that listeriosis is a dangerous condition that can be life-threatening. If you have purchased any of the recalled Rich's Ice Cream products, it is advisable to discard them.

As of now, the FDA and Rich Ice Cream Co. have not specified if customers can get refunds or pursue other remedies. For more information, customers can contact Rich Ice Cream Co. at 1-561-833-7585 or visit their website at richicecream.com. Additional questions can be addressed to the FDA at 1-888-463-6332.

It's also worth noting that the FDA states that Dairy Queen's sweet treats cannot legally be called 'ice cream'. This is not related to the current recall and is a separate issue.

Stay informed and prioritise your health. Always check for recalls and ensure the food you consume is safe.
