At Least 5 Dead in Indonesia School Collapse During Prayers
A tragic incident occurred at Al Khoziny Islamic Boarding School in Sidoarjo, Indonesia, where a building collapse during afternoon prayers has left at least three students dead and many more injured. Rescue efforts are ongoing amidst fears of further collapse.
The building, which was undergoing unauthorized expansion, suddenly collapsed while students were performing their afternoon prayers. Dozens are presumed buried under the rubble, with the death toll expected to rise as rescuers spot additional bodies. Rescue efforts were temporarily halted due to safety concerns of another collapse.
After more than eight hours, rescue workers managed to pull out eight injured survivors. Unfortunately, two male students succumbed to their injuries while receiving treatment at a hospital. Over 100 students were injured in the incident, with 75 still hospitalized along with two teachers.
The identities of the rescue and police unit leaders involved in the operation are not publicly disclosed. The cause of the collapse is under investigation, with the unauthorized expansion of the building being a key focus. The school community and local residents await further updates on the rescue efforts and the condition of the injured.
