Approximately 1812 liters of blood seized during investigation
In the heart of Bavaria, the Lower Bavaria region, a significant number of blood donations are being utilised daily to support patients in need, with around 2000 units being used each day.
Recently, an event was organised by the BRK district association Fürth to acknowledge individuals who contribute significantly to medical care through voluntary and unpaid support. Among the honourees was Bernd Obst, the district administrator and BRK board chairman, who is a regular blood donor.
The honourees, in total, have donated an impressive 1812 liters of blood, with each individual having donated between 50 and over 150 units. This extraordinary solidarity was celebrated at the event held at the Further Red Cross House.
Bernd Obst, in his speech, praised the dedication of those present, highlighting the indispensable pillar of healthcare that the cooperation between volunteers and the BRK represents.
In addition to these local initiatives, broader efforts are being made to increase blood donations in the region. The BRK continues to encourage blood donation drives, providing a convenient and quick way for individuals to help.
These blood donation drives are essential for healthcare resilience, not only providing essential donor blood but also being leveraged for important health surveillance purposes. For instance, a study investigating tick-borne encephalitis virus (TBEV) seroprevalence analysed 1339 serum samples from voluntary blood donors in the district of Passau and surrounding high-risk areas. This revealed a high vaccination coverage rate of 81.2% and a significant presence of infection-induced antibodies, highlighting both substantial blood donor participation and public health monitoring through blood donations in Bavaria.
Local corporate campaigns further complement these efforts by promoting donor participation. For example, the joint blood donation event among companies in Oldernholz, which is scheduled for its 7th event in October 2025, reflects ongoing efforts to promote and support blood donation in regional workplaces.
In conclusion, Bavaria's blood donation initiatives are a testament to the solidarity and commitment of its residents. By donating blood, individuals are not only helping those in need but also contributing to important health surveillance efforts, boosting healthcare resilience in the region.
The honourees of the event organized by the BRK district association Fürth, including Bernd Obst, have not only donated blood but also demonstrated their support for other sectors of medical care, making them significant contributors to health-and-wellness.
The TBEV seroprevalence study in the district of Passau analyzed blood donor samples, providing valuable insights not only for healthcare resilience but also contributing to the scientific understanding of health and wellness issues.
