Alzheimer Society Honors Innovative Dementia Initiatives in Arnsberg
The Alzheimer Society of Canada (ASC) recently held the 'Living with Dementia' ideas competition prize-giving ceremony in Arnsberg. The event recognised innovative initiatives aimed at improving life for people with dementia and fostering a more inclusive society.
Caritas Day Care Hüsten took home the 1st prize for their creative 'Kamishibai' storytelling theatre. This interactive project engages people with dementia, promoting social interaction and cognitive stimulation.
Hanna Ewert's theatre project 'The Little Prince' won the 2nd prize. This inclusive production brings together people with and without dementia, encouraging understanding and empathy.
Drehmomente Arnsberg e.V. won the 3rd prize for offering accompanied rickshaw rides. These leisurely outings provide a sense of freedom and normalcy for people with dementia, while also raising awareness among the public.
The Sauerland Museum in Arnsberg also won an award for their group tours tailored for people with dementia. These tours offer a stimulating and accessible cultural experience.
Each winner received a small financial recognition for their initiatives, which range from practical everyday aids to creative meeting formats and participation projects.
The 'Living with Dementia' competition aimed to raise awareness of dementia and set positive impulses for social cohesion. Martin Polenz, managing director of the Arnsberg Dementia Network, highlighted the importance of small everyday improvements for people with dementia and their relatives. The network thanks all participants and hopes to contribute to a more dementia-friendly social climate.
