Obituary: Wanda Lucile DenetDele Mansell (1935-2025)
Wanda Lucile DenetDele Mansell, a remarkable nurse and mother of nine, passed away on August 27, 2025, at the age of 90. Born in Tuba City, Arizona, to Fred DenetDele (Dine) and Rena LaFlore (Choctaw), Wanda's journey took her across the United States, where she made a significant impact in the field of nursing and in the lives of her family.
After attending Haskell Institute in Lawrence, Kansas, Wanda completed a rigorous three-year program at St. Margaret's Catholic School of Nursing in Kansas City, becoming a Registered Nurse. This marked the beginning of her illustrious career, spanning over 40 years and multiple institutions.
In 1958, Wanda married Floyd Mansell, and together they embarked on a new chapter of their lives. Floyd's work brought them to Santa Fe, NM, where they welcomed their first child. The family then settled in Magdalena, NM, where they raised their nine children. The names of the four children who lived before Wanda's passing are not publicly available.
Throughout her career, Wanda served as a dedicated and compassionate nurse, earning her the prestigious Nurses Living Legend Award. Her legacy in the nursing community is a testament to her commitment to her profession and her patients.
Wanda is survived by her sister, Shirley Pettis of Williamston, MI, and several children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
